There are times when our hearts feel too heavy for words.

We may put on our public face.  Smile in front of others.  Whilst, internally, we carry grief, disappointment, loneliness, rejection, or fear. Sometimes, the pain is so deep that even prayer feels difficult.

Psalm 34 vs.18 is beautiful

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted

and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

God is near

He is not distant. He does not turn away from us when we feel broken. In fact, Scripture tells us that, He draws close to those whose hearts are broken and whose spirits are crushed.

Brokenness Is Not the End

The words “broken hearted” and “crushed in spirit” describe people who are experiencing deep emotional pain.

The Bible never pretends that life is easy. Throughout Scripture, we see faithful people who experienced the same type of suffering, fear, grief, and disappointment that we face too.

Our times of brokenness do not mean that God has stopped writing our story. Sometimes, God does His deepest work in the places where we feel weakest.

God Doesn’t Waste Our Tears

There may be something you are carrying today that nobody else knows about.

Perhaps you are grieving someone you love.

Perhaps a relationship has ended.

Perhaps you have been disappointed by someone you trusted.

Perhaps you are struggling with uncertainty about the future.

Or perhaps you simply feel tired—tired of being strong, tired of waiting, and tired of pretending that everything is okay.

Bring that pain to God.

You don’t have to pretend everything is okay, when it isn’t.

Come to God exactly as you are.

The God who created you knows your heart completely, and He invites you to trust Him with every broken piece.

There is Hope in God’s Presence

Psalm 34 vs.18 doesn’t merely tell us that God notices broken people. It tells us that

He saves those who are crushed in spirit.

That means our pain is not beyond His reach.

God can bring comfort where there has been sorrow. He can bring peace where there has been anxiety. He can bring healing where there has been hurt. And He can bring hope into places that once seemed hopeless.

His answer may not always come in the way or in the time we expect. But His presence is a promise we can hold onto.

If Your Heart is Broken Today

If you are reading this with a hurting heart, remember this:

Your pain does not make you forgotten by God.

Your tears do not make you weak.

Your difficulties do not mean that your story is over.

God is close to you right now.

Even when you cannot feel Him, He is near.

Even when you cannot see the way forward, He is still faithful.

And even when your heart feels broken beyond repair, God is able to bring restoration.

A Last Bit of Encouragement!

Whatever you are facing today, hold tightly to the promise of Psalm 34 vs18:

“The Lord is close to the broken hearted.”

You may be broken, but you are not abandoned.

You may be hurting, but you are not without hope.

And you may not know what tomorrow holds, but you can trust the God who holds tomorrow.

God is near.
